How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people, when it comes to single-car accidents, are quick to simply blame the person behind the wheel. I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years, though. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation. That is why, as a general rule, I avoid jumping to conclusions.

I want to be clear about the fact that I do not know more about this specific accident than anyone else would outside of the investigations. I simply want to suggest a hypothetical. What if, rather than driver error, the collision was a result of something wrong with the Malibu? Maybe it had a tire blowout? Or perhaps there was a steering mechanism issue? Vehicles are complex machines; any number of things might have gone wrong.

Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the Malibu. That way any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck will not be allowed to fly under the radar. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to how and why it happened. Surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
