Accident Report

August 5, 2026, a California Highway Patrol officer was injured following an 18-wheeler accident that happened at 7:24 a.m. on State Route 59.

According to initial details about the accident, it took place north of Merced near the intersection of State Route 59 and Turlock Road.

Investigators said that a California Highway Patrol trooper was going along the highway when they attempted to make a u-turn. While doing so, an oncoming 18-wheeler struck the patrol vehicle.

The CHP officer sustained serious injuries and had to be flown from the scene to a hospital. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
