Houston, TX — September 20, 2025, Chiqitha Duffy was killed as the result of a car accident that happened around 4:25 a.m. along Spur 5.
According to preliminary statements on the accident, it happened at the Spur 5 entrance to I-45.
Harris County officials say that 37-year-old Chiqitha Duffy was in a vehicle going northbound toward the Gulf Freeway. For reasons which are not confirmed, the vehicle crashed in a construction zone. Due to this, Chiqitha Duffy was killed.
There did not appear to be any other vehicles involved in the crash. Additional details are unavailable.

Single-vehicle wrecks unfortunately tend to be written off as simple or open-and-shut. In reality, they can involve unique challenges, and it’s important investigations are thorough enough to consider even unusual potential factors.
For example, how closely are authorities investigating this construction zone? Too often, crash investigations focus solely on the vehicles involved. But there have been situations where a lack of visible signage, unsafe parking of construction equipment, and poor design and zoning have led to drivers being put in danger when traveling through or past a construction zone. That may not be what happened here, but have steps even been taking to rule that out?
These are the kinds of concerns folks should be aware of following a fatal accident. The victim isn’t around to give their side of the story, so the evidence needs to be allowed to do so in their stead. If it seems like authorities aren’t prioritizing getting all the facts, then that may be a sign that an accident would be better off in the hands of independent investigators.
