UPDATE (March 19, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify what occurred leading up to and during this incident. According to these reports, 59-year-old Chile Domingo Mercedes was traveling in a northeast bound Honda Accord on Enchanted Cove at the S.H. 71 intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the Honda entered the intersection at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a T-bone collision between the driver side of the Honda and the front end of a southeast bound Dodge Challenger.
Mercedes incurred reportedly critical injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome his injuries and was there declared deceased. No other injuries have been reported.
Bastrop County, TX — February 27, 2024, at least one person was killed in a car accident at approximately 11:20 p.m. along State Highway 71.
According to authorities, the accident took place in the eastbound lanes of State Highway 71 in the vicinity of the Enchanted Cove intersection.
The causal factors that led to the accident are still unclear. Reports have not specified how many vehicles were involved in the deadly accident; however, it has been confirmed that at least one person was killed as a result. It is unknown, at this point, whether or not there are any other injuries related to this incident.
