My hope after these kinds of incidents is that authorities are able to release more information about the suspect vehicle. The general public is one of the best tools available to authorities for soliving hit-and-run accidents. Someone is often able to connect the dots and come forward with helpful information. That could be a neighbor, a co-worker, a vigilant bystander, someone with a security camera that caught the accident on video—we’ve even had a hit-and-run case where a runaway driver’s girlfriend decided to do the right thing and turn him in. At the end of the day, the community is as keen as anyone to see runaway drivers brought to answer for their actions. Once that happens, authorities can find out why they ran and what potential consequences may be appropriate.
