Accident Report

Ottumwa, IA — August 27, 2026, a child was injured in a hit-and-run accident just after 4 p.m. in the 1500 block of Albia Road.

Authorities said a pickup hit a child near the intersection with Minneopa Avenue, close to where the boy had been dropped off by an Ottumwa Community School District. The pickup did not stop after the collision.

The boy was hospitalized with unspecified injuries after the crash, according to authorities.

The pickup driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested after witness descriptions led police to a rural Ottumwa home, authorities said. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injuries.
