According to authorities, 44-year-old Che Richardson was traveling in a southeast bound Buick Lucerne on Waco Street in the vicinity between the Wheeler Street and Congo Street intersections when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a collision occurred between the front-end of the Buick and the right side of a parked and unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Richardson reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
At first glance, it might appear that this accident was caused by driver error. However, I’ve learned over the years not to automatically jump to that conclusion just because it seems “most likely”. Why? Because I’ve seen the exceptions. I’ve analyzed hundreds of single-car accidents over the years; I’ve seen cases where the investigation turns up evidence of underlying issues with the vehicle that caused the wreck, even when everything on the surface pointed to it being the driver’s fault.
To be clear, I’m not saying I know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. Feel free to leave me a comment letting me know whether or not you agree, but, hypothetically, it’s possible that something was wrong with the Buick, and that’s what caused the collision with the Silverado. For example, what if the Buick was experiencing a steering malfunction? Or perhaps it have a tire blowout? There is also the possibility of brake failure. Honestly, the list of hypothetical causes could go on and on. We just won’t know until the investigation releases it’s findings.
Hopefully, the authorities get an in-depth inspection done on the Buick. That’s how any underlying issues the vehicle might have had can be brought to light. If, for any reason, the authorities fail to do so, a third party investigation might have to take that step. After all, Mr. Richardson deserves to have all the facts based on hard evidence, not vague excuses possibly unmerited blame.
