July 19, 2026, Charles Murray and Deborah Murray were killed following an 18-wheeler accident at 7:41 p.m. along I-20.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened along the interstate near Exit 269. It appears that 80-year-old Charles Murray and 67-year-old Deborah Murray were in a pickup pulling a trailer going along the interstate. While the pickup was changing lanes, the trailer and the front of an 18-wheeler collided. This then led to the pickup running off-road where it overturned.
Due to the crash, both Charles Murray and Deborah Murray sustained fatal injuries. The 18-wheeler driver had no reported injuries. At this time, additional details about the crash unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
In some reporting, details suggested that the pickup changed lanes without enough space between the trailer and the 18-wheeler. I want to be clear up front that I can’t say if that’s true or not. I’d have to see clear evidence to make a conclusion there. My question and my concern is, what evidence did authorities use to come to that conclusion?
It might surprise folks how often a police report on a serious commercial vehicle crash like this amounts to no more than officers interviewing whoever was involved in the crash. Well, if only one person survives that crash, that’s going to result in a one-sided explanation of the events. Even if that explanation is true, that’s not something any family should have to accept at face value.
It’s important there are steps to preserve electronic data, analyze the crash scene, canvas for witnesses not involved in the collision, examine phone records, secure video footage, and otherwise turn over every stone to get a complete picture of the events. If authorities have done and are continuing to do that here, that would be reassuring. In my experience, though, it’s unlikely any explanation of events this soon after the crash is going to tell the whole story.
