Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of the most challenging things about crashes like this is simply that the victim isn’t around to give their side of the story. As such, it’s totally reasonable that a family might worry that side of the story won’t be told at all.
That’s why it’s so important to make sure investigators are focusing on gathering evidence and letting the facts speak for themselves. When authorities are able to address all concerns and answer questions thoroughly, it’s generally because they dug beyond the surface and let the evidence do the talking. When their answers aren’t adding up, though, that can be a sign that the accident was a low priority or that authorities lacked the time and tools they needed to do the job right.
A result like that can be an opportunity, then, to bring in a second set of eyes to find out if authorities missed anything important. This allows a victim’s loved ones to ensure they’re getting the full story they deserve.
