Accident Report

February 12, 2026, a Channelview man was injured due to an 18-wheeler accident around 12:56 a.m. along FM 1462.  

Officials said that the crash happened near County Road 675, south of Iowa Colony.  

According to investigators, weather was foggy at the time. It appears a 35-year-old Channelview man was in a Jeep Liberty that was stopped along eastbound FM 1462. While the Jeep was there, an approaching semi-trailer crashed into it.  

The Channelview man was seriously injured due to the crash. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details about the crash are unavailable.  

How Did This Accident Occur?

Reading these preliminary details, people might be content to say that “fog” was obviously the cause of the crash. However, I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, and many of them involved inclement weather. I can’t recall a single time that the weather was ultimately the cause of a crash. Instead, it’s almost always the way people behave in that weather that causes a crash. 

That’s why, when I read these initial details, I think about factors that were happening during that fog rather than the fog itself. Why was the Jeep stopped? Was it waiting to turn? Disabled due to a mechanical issue? Was it clearly visible? Was the truck going at appropriate speeds given the weather conditions at the time? Did it have time to slow down or go around the Jeep? If so, why didn’t it?  

In my experience, these questions are likely to reveal that there was something else besides the fog that led to the crash. That said, maybe the evidence will ultimately show that the fog really was the primary causal factor here. If anyone was in this area around the time when the crash happened, maybe they can shed light on just how thick the fog was.
