Midland, TX — June 15, 2024, Chaka Callins and another person were injured in a car accident shortly after 4:15 p.m. along Big Spring Street.
According to authorities, 47-year-old Chaka Callins was traveling in a westbound Chevrolet Spark on Scharbauer Drive at the Big Spring Street intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southbound Dodge Charger occupied by a 59-year-old woman on Big Spring Street entered the intersection at an apparently unsafe time, failing to stop for a red light indicated by the traffic signal. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the Charger and the back-right side of the Chevy Spark.
Callins sustained suspected severe injuries as a result of the wreck. The woman from the Charger suffered moderate injuries, as well, according to reports. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
