How Did This Accident Occur?

At this point, we don’t know why this truck left the road and crashed into a tractor along I-69. Was the driver distracted? Did another vehicle force the truck off the road? Did the truck have an issue with its steering mechanism? The best way to answer these questions, in my experience, is to wait until the investigation is complete. That way we’ll be able to draw conclusions based on all of the available facts.

Investigators likely will start by working to reconstruct this accident, using physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the truck driver was doing at the time, while maintenance logs will indicate whether the truck had any unaddressed mechanical problems.

If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, a qualified expert will be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the truck. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, but the injured mower operator and his family deserve to know as much as possible about this crash.
