Accident Report

Bowie County, TX — July 16, 2026, Casandra Welch and her daughter were killed in a truck accident at about 4:30 p.m. on State Line Drive/U.S. Highway 71.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2017 Volvo semi-truck was heading west on Interstate 49 when it allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with a northbound 2024 Volkswagen Atlas north of Texarkana.

Volkswagen driver Casandra Lyann Welch, 32, and her 8-year-old daughter died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report. Three other children in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver, who was not injured, is not facing any charges or citations related to the crash at this time, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Bowie County crash.
