How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear what kind of traffic control devices are in place at this intersection, so it’s hard to know who is responsible for this crash. That is why a full investigation is needed.

Investigators, either police or an independent third party, will try to reconstruct this accident by scrutinizing witness statements, evidence from the scene, data from both vehicles and any available video footage of the crash. Cell phone records can show if either driver was distracted at the time of the collision.

If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to the crash, a qualified expert will have to examine both vehicles in a laboratory setting. That typically is beyond the scope of what law enforcement agencies can do in their investigations, in my experience, but the family that is grieving after this crash deserves to know the truth of what happened on 90th Avenue.
