How Did This Accident Occur?
These reports did not mention specifics about what led to this accident. In my experience, a lot of falls on job sites trace back either to workers not being provided with proper safety gear or workers who are pressured to work fast instead of working safe. Maybe that’s not what happened here. It’s even possible this was just an unavoidable mishap. Clearly, authorities are looking into things.
My concern, though, is that authorities don’t always focus on getting the full story. Usually, OSHA and MSHA focus on looking for violations they can issue fines for. When it comes to getting every single detail and getting families answers, that tends to fall by the wayside. Meanwhile, families are left to navigate the most complex work accident laws in the whole country. If no one is working to get them the information they need, that legal maze can become a significant obstacle.
So, are there investigators looking into this accident who are getting the worker’s loved ones clear, thorough answers? If so, that’s good. If not, then there may need to be independent investigations to fill in the blanks.
