Oceanside, CA — March 3, 2024, one person was killed and another was injured resulting from a car versus excavator accident at around 4:15 p.m. along S.R. 78.
According to authorities, two people were traveling in an eastbound passenger vehicle on State Route 78 in the vicinity of El Camino Real when the accident occurred.
The causal factors that led to the accident are still unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the passenger vehicle collided with an excavator that had allegedly been parked near the shoulder of the roadway. Both of the occupants of the vehicle were reportedly entrapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency personnel.
Each of the victims suffered apparently critical injuries as a result of the accident and were transported to local medical facilities for treatment upon being freed from the aftermath. One of the victims, however, was ultimately unable to overcome the extent of their injuries and was later declared deceased.
