Bakersfield, CA — December 18, 2023, six people were injured in a car vs bus accident shortly before 7:00 in the morning along Interstate 5.
According to authorities, a man and a woman were traveling in a northbound Kia on Interstate 5 in the vicinity to the north of Fort Tejon when the accident occurred.
For unknown reasons, the Kia attempted a lane change at an unsafe time, resulting in a side-swipe collision with an Amtrac bus. The crash with the bus resulted in the Kia overturning. The man who had been in the Kia reportedly incurred suspected minor injuries, while the woman sustained suspected severe injuries; both of them were flown to a local hospital in order to receive necessary treatment. There were four people who had been passengers on the bus who had suspected injuries, as well.
The accident is under active investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were not specifically reported; however, photographs taken of the scene which have been published in the news depict apparently clear skies and dry roads.
