Smith County, TX — November 10, 2023, one person was injured in a car accident at about 2:50 in the afternoon along Interstate Highway 20.
According to reports, a 23-year-old man was traveling in an eastbound Nissan Versa in the left-hand lane of I.H. 20 just west of the County Road 353 intersection when the accident occurred.
The Nissan went to attempt to pass a vehicle ahead, but failed to do so in a safe manner; for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Nissan rather veered off of the right-hand side of the road where it struck a guardrail. The collision with the guardrail caused the Nissan to spin around, coming to rest facing southwest and partially blocking both lanes of eastbound traffic. The 23-year-old reportedly suffered severe injuries as a result of the accident; he was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time of the accident were reportedly cloudy and dry. No additional information is currently available pertaining to this incident.
