How Did This Accident Occur?
In recent years, I get a ton of questions about Teslas. The company makes headlines a lot, and there are usually concerns revolving around their automatic driving features. I just want to be clear up front that I have no particular information about what caused this crash. Is it possible there was some sort of defect related to lane assistance, automatic driving, or crash avoidance? Absolutely, and that needs to be included in any decent accident reconstruction.
That said, it’s important to consider all kinds of other possibilities. It could be the crash involved something as common as distracted driving or unsafe speeds. Or, maybe there was an environmental issue, like objects in the road or issues with the road itself. It’s up to accident reconstructionists to sort that out and ensure the evidence tells the story. Hopefully that happens here, whether that’s through the authorities or through independent professionals.
If anyone owns or has driven a Tesla, did you notice anything unusual? Let me know in the comments.
