Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the SUV failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left, crashing into a concrete barrier. This caused the SUV to overturn, landing on its roof and spinning across both southeast bound lanes of the interstate before coming to a rest on the shoulder. A Prius, which had also been southbound in the right-hand lane at the time, allegedly veered right off of the roadway in order to avoid a collision with the SUV, coming to rest in a roadside ditch.

The 8-year-old boy who had been in the SUV incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the crash. The 12-year-old boy, 10-year-old girl, and 29-year-old woman all sustained suspected moderate injuries. All four of the victims were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive medical treatment. No other injuries have been reported.

Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of those involved—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is ongoing.
