How Did This Accident Occur?
On a divided roadway like this, vehicles crashing while going opposite directions is usually the result of someone failing to yield while making a left turn or because a vehicle lost control and careened left of center. Authorities aren’t really clear on what happened in this crash. It could be that someone was on their phone or not paying attention to the road. It could be that fatigue or alcohol contributed to the crash. Or, this could have been some unusual, unavoidable crash involving a vehicle defect or roadway issues.
What’s important is preserving as much evidence as possible. Physical evidence at the scene, witness statements, vehicle and cellphone data, video from nearby cameras, etc. If authorities worked to secure all of that, that would be good to hear. But if getting the full story required independent investigators stepping in and picking up the slack, it would be far from the first time.
