Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People often think car accidents are simple due to the fact they’re common. The reality, though, is any investigation can involve complex factors that standard police reports aren’t likely to address on their own.

Were the vehicles inspected for defects? Did authorities look for cameras in the area? Did road design or issues with signage or lighting contribute to the crash? Was someone unlawfully over-served by a bar or other alcohol provider? Did this involve some sort of medical condition? Was there another reckless driver involved who left the scene?

Likely or not, accident reconstructionists should be able to rule out all possible factors to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. Authorities are sometimes capable of doing this, but I learned a long time ago not to take for granted.
