Accident Report
June 27, 2026, one person was injured after a car accident which happened around 9:24 p.m. on Congress Avenue.
Preliminary information about the accident says that it happened at the intersection of Congress Avenue and East 6th Street.
Authorities said that a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were going eastbound through the intersection. A Chevy Suburban was going northbound when it struck those men.
Due to the accident, the 27-year-old man was seriously injured. The 28-year-old man had reportedly minor injuries. Right now, exact details about the accident are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
To be frank, when I hear about an accident off of 6th Street in Austin late in the evening, my first question is whether or not alcohol was involved. There are a lot of bars and restaurants in the area, and one could have easily over-served someone who then got into a serious accident. Hopefully authorities have already looked into all of that. My hope is they’ve also considered possibilities that may seem unlikely. Even things like vehicle defects, issues with signage or traffic signals, or some kind of emergency is worth looking into so that the evidence can say for sure what happened, one way or ther other. If authorities did that here, that’s good. But if that took more thorough independent investigations, it wouldn’t be at all unusual.
