How Did This Accident Occur?

A driver facing a charge after failing to yield may explain a lot, but it still doesn’t really get to the root cause of how those things happened. Was it because the driver was on their phone? Was impaired driving a factor? Was there an obstruction to visibility at the intersection? Have there been problems with the lights malfunctioning here?

That all might seem like something authorities would look into, but preliminary investigations can miss a whole lot. I’ve been a part of countless accident investigations which either found new factors authorities missed or corrected assumptions officers made which proved to be wrong. That’s why it’s important victims and families know that investigators are focused on getting the facts and not just looking for someone to blame. Otherwise, something important could slip through the cracks.
