When details are unclear like this, the concern is that it isn’t authorities being reserved but rather a sign they’re not being very thorough. It often surprises folks when they trust authorities to get them answers, and they find themselves weeks or months down the line just as in the dark as they were in the beginning. It’s one of the reasons independent accident reconstructionists are such a valuable tool. They ask questions authorities tend to ignore.
Were there any mechanical defects? Are there issues with the roadway? Did a medical condition lead to the crash? Was the driver illegally over-served by a bar? Did another reckless driver cause the crash and leave the scene? Likely or not, these things are worth attention, if only to rule them out. Maybe authorities have been more thorough here behind the scenes, but that remains to be seen.
