Hopefully authorities were able to keep tabs on the witness they spoke to just in case their testimony is needed later. I can’t how many times we got a case with details like these, and when we went to authorities for a witness’s contact information, it turned out the investigating officer just let the witness go from the scene without so much as a last name. The unfortunate reality is officers make mistakes, and some departments just don’t prioritize accident reconstruction. Ultimately, that leaves victims and families out in the wind unless they have independent investigators picking up the slack. It unfortunately wouldn’t be surprising if this was one of those situations.
