Scurry County, TX — February 12, 2024, one person was killed while Cameron Scott Johnson and Stephan Jerod Gunderson were injured in a car accident at about 1:20 p.m. along F.M. 1609.
According to authorities, a 24-year-old man was traveling in a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck on Farm to Market 1609 in the vicinity north of State Highway 350 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the Sierra failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It apparently veered left, crossing over the center line and entering the northbound lane of the roadway. An oncoming Ford F-250 with a trailer in tow occupied by 26-year-old Cameron Scott Johnson and 30-year-old Stephan Jerod Gunderson attempted evasive action by veering left and entering the southbound lane. However, the Sierra corrected its course into the southbound lane, as well, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.
The crash caused the Sierra to burst into flames, coming to rest blocking both lanes and facing southwest. The Ford came to a stop in the roadside ditch on the west side of the road. The man from the Sierra incurred fatal injuries as a result of the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. Both Gunderson and Johnson sustained suspected severe injuries and were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive treatment.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
