Letcher County, KY — January 12, 2024, twenty children and one adult were injured in a bus versus truck accident in the afternoon hours along S.H. 932.

According to authorities, the accident took place along S.H. 932 in the vicinity of the Flat Gap neighborhood near the Kentucky-Virginia border.

The causal factors that led to the accident are still unclear. Officials indicate that a collision took place between the school bus and a coal truck. The collision allegedly caused the bus to veer off of the roadway and down an embankment. Pictures of the scene which have been published in the news depict the bus resting on its left side in the running waters of a shallow creek. Twenty-one people—twenty children and the bus driver—were reportedly transported to local medical facilities in order to receive treatment for injuries sustained during the accident. One student reportedly underwent surgery and remains hospitalized due to the serious nature of his injuries.
