Jefferson County, TX — August 9, 2025, Bret Ayres Sr. was injured as the result of a single-vehicle motorcycle accident around 7:00 p.m. on Smith Road.
Investigators were called to the scene southwest of Beaumont near the corner of the Smith Road and Kidd Road intersection, just off I-10.
Authorities said that 56-year-old Bret Ayres Sr. was on a BMW motorcycle traveling along Smith Road. Due to factors not confirmed right now, the motorcycle lost control and crashed. As a result, Bret Ayres sustained serious injuries.
There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident. No further information is currently available.

One of the biggest challenges with motorcycle wrecks is making sure they get a fair and thorough investigation. Frankly, a lot of people are biased against motorcyclists. They assume the rider was being reckless rather than focusing on the facts and letting the evidence speak for itself.
This is why it’s important for victims and families to gauge the kind of response they’re getting from authorities. If it seems authorities are being fair and addressing all concerns thoroughly, that’s likely a sign they’re taking the investigations seriously. But if it seems their answers aren’t adding up or that they’re overlooking important details, there may need to be a more thorough independent investigations to make sure the facts are straight.
