Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

A common concern people come to me about is after single-vehicle accidents when they feel authorities care more about placing blame than actually conducting thorough investigations. The fact of the matter is single-vehicle accidents can be seen as a low priority, which means they aren’t always given enough attention from accident reconstructionists.

This often leads to important details slipping through the cracks, such as road design, vehicle defects, medical conditions, lighting and signage, tire failure, or other extenuating circumstances that too often go overlooked. To help ensure those and other possible factors get the attention they deserve, it can help to seek out independent investigations. Sometimes, they’ll confirm what authorities already know. Other times, they’ll show that the situation isn’t as open-and-shut as authorities may have it.
