How Did This Accident Occur?
When a car leaves the road like this at 1 a.m., it’s easy to assume it happened because the driver was distracted, fatigued or even impaired. But assumptions have no place in accident investigations, in my experience, so authorities should consider physical evidence, witness statements, data from the pickup’s engine control module and any available video of the crash.
That will help determine if the pickup swerved to avoid an obstruction in the road. Or maybe it had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism.
The facts gathered in the course of the investigation are a much better basis for figuring out what happened than guesswork or assumptions.
