I haven’t seen any new information about this, which leaves me with two serious questions.

The first is if authorities looked into where the alleged drunk driver was coming from. In Texas, it’s important to know if drivers were unlawfully over-served by a negligent alcohol provider. Those providers can be legally responsible for their role in a serious accident if they over-serve someone who is obviously intoxicated, and that leads to people being hurt or killed. Since that helps to get those establishments to clean up their act, it’s important to know if authorities covered that possibility.

Secondly, was this a work vehicle? Chevy Express vans are often used for business purposes. It’s not entirely unheard for someone to drive drunk on the job. That would raise serious concerns about if the driver was working for an employer who knew or should have known something like this might happen. An alleged drunk driver is one thing; a business putting the community at risk is another matter entirely.

So if the investigations are still ongoing, it would be good to know that authorities were digging beyond the surface and not settling for the simplest explanation. People involved in crashes like this deserve to know they’re getting all the facts.
