Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
My concern in these situations is always whether or not authorities gave it the attention it deserves. Simply put, both single-vehicle wrecks and motorcycle accidents are types of crashes that often get brushed aside. Many departments see them as a low priority, so unless independent investigators are there to fill in the gaps, important details can slip through the cracks.
Were there issues with the road? Missing signage or lighting? A defect with the victim’s vehicle? Did the victim suffer a medical emergency? Did another reckless driver cause the crash and flee the scene? If authorities haven’t been working to answer these and other important questions, they may be drawing conclusions they don’t have the evidence to fully support.
