Investigators said in preliminary statements that the crash happened just west of the 91 Freeway and 710 Freeway interchange.

Initial reports say that a box truck was going eastbound on 91 at the time. Somehow, the vehicle crashed into the sound wall and overturned. The driver was removed from the wreckage with unspecified injuries.

At this time, no additional details are available.

How Did This Accident Occur?

People tend to assume single-vehicle accidents have to be the result of driver error. It is true that things like unsafe speeds and distracted driving are very common. But it’s important to consider other possibilities—especially with commercial trucks.

Did a tire blow out? Did cargo shift? Was the driver being overworked? Were they not trained properly? Was the truck being maintained by a company that was cutting corners? Have authorities inspected the truck for potential defects?

Likely or not, these things can happen, and I too often see authorities overlook these possibilities in their investigations. Hopefully they’re being more thorough or the crash is otherwise put in the hands of professionals who will take their time with the investigations.
