Brookeland, TX — May 17, 2024, Two people were injured, one seriously, in a boating accident on Sam Rayburn Lake, around 3:00 P.M.
According to statements from authorities, the two occupants of the boat encountered what was called a mechanical failure while traversing the water.
The reported mechanical issue caused the operator to lose control of the boat, causing it to run aground and subsequently eject the two individuals.
Both occupants were injured, however the older individual reportedly sustained a broken femur and was flown to the hospital via helicopter. The second occupant was transported by ambulance.
At this time, there is no report of either person sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Details about the possible mechanical defect are still under investigation.
