New York, NY — June 7, 2024, a cyclist was killed due to a delivery truck accident at around 2:00 p.m. along 11th Avenue.
According to initial details released by officials, the collision happened at the intersection of 11th Avenue and West 50th Street.

In their statements, authorities said that a 32-year-old was on a Citi e-bike going along the sidewalk. While attempting to cross the intersection, a beer delivery truck making a right turn from 50th to 11th reportedly hit the cyclist. As a result, the rider sustained fatal injuries. There’s not a lot of specific information here regarding visibility, right-of-way, and the exact moments surrounding the collision. I wouldn’t suggest blaming anyone without knowing all the facts. One thing to consider, though, is that New York is just about the number one place a driver should be watching for pedestrians and cyclists. Of course, even with that heightened awareness, there are situations a driver simply can’t avoid. But is this one of those situations, or would investigations show an attentive, careful truck driver would have been able to avoid this?
