Accident Report

May 21, 2026, one person was injured due to a semi-truck versus bicycle accident around 2:30 p.m. on Rainbow Boulevard.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the collision happened at the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Del Rey Avenue.

The events surrounding the accident aren’t clear right now. Authorities said only that a semi-truck collided with a bicyclist. As a result, the bicyclist was taken from the scene with serious injuries. There is no report of pending charges or citations at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I find that a lot of people are quick to blame bicyclists following serious accidents. There’s this negative view that cyclists don’t follow the rules of the road. That does happen, and maybe that happened here.

That said, I’ve seen plenty of situations where drivers in larger vehicles simply didn’t keep a proper lookout for cyclists out on the road. Considering this happened on a major roadway during daylight hours, I have to wonder why it was that the truck driver couldn’t avoid the victim. Was it something beyond the driver’s control, or did certain behavior or working conditions prevent them from reacting in time?

One thing that could help clear things up is if there were any nearby businesses with cameras that had a view of the road. I see investigations all the time how authorities will look for dashcams and traffic cameras, but cameras are all over the place these days. That video is likely time-sensitive, though, so it’s important to canvas the immediate area as soon as possible before the video is lost or overwritten.
