Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I’ve found over the years that a lot of people are quick to blame pedestrians, cyclists, and people otherwise not in a standard car. After any serious accident, though, the facts need to speak for themselves. Jumping to conclusions won’t do any good. So if authorities got witness statements here, looked for video cameras, mapped debris and road markings, pulled cell phone records, and otherwise let the evidence do the talking, that would be good to hear.

However, that’s not the sort of effort I’d ever take for granted. It’s important victims and families always follow up with authorities to gauge how the investigations are being handled. If there seem to be shortcomings, they can seek out independent investigators to pick up the slack.
