Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

According to investigators, the victim of this accident told them the intersection “snuck up on her.” I’m not inclined to speculate on exactly what she meant by that, nor what might have prevented her from stopping at the intersection she herself described as familiar. The only thing I’d say is I hope officers treated her with appropriate care and listened closely to her version of events.

That kind of attention to detail is always needed to assemble the puzzle of any crash, as they’re often more complicated than people might realize at the outset. If the accident victim herself is confused about how exactly she ended up in a ditch, then it may fall to investigators to help fill in the blanks for her. Hopefully local law enforcement has the training and resources to get her the whole story; anything beyond that may depend on what the story actually turns out to be.
