Accident Report

August 28, 2026, a student was injured following a fire accident involving a Chromebook at Berta Weathersbee Elementary.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the incident happened inside a classroom at the school located at 1200 Forrest Avenue.

According to reports, a Chromebook in the classroom somehow caught fire, burning one student. That child was taken for treatment with unspecified injuries.

There did not appear to be any other injuries. Further information about the incident is still under investigation.

An electronic appliance catching fire like this often relates to the battery. There obviously has to be a careful inspection to find that out for sure. Of course, there could be another layer to this. It’s worth knowing if this laptop had some kind of know issues or if it was known to be faulty or short out. Likely or not, I can’t imagine any family would think there was something too unlikely to look into. What really matters is getting the facts, and that means leaving no stone unturned.
