How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people likely would assume this crash was caused by a motorcyclist riding recklessly. But I’ve analyzed enough motorcycle accidents in my 30-plus-year career to know that this stereotype is not an accurate one. Most riders tend to be very safety conscious because they know other drivers usually aren’t alert to their presence on the road.
Authorities should conduct a full investigation of this crash, preferably by someone who has experience with motorcycle accidents. Motorcycles are complex machines, and the dynamics of motorcycle accidents are different than car or truck accidents.
The investigation should include an in-depth inspection of the Kawasaki motorcycle to determine if a mechanical problem contributed to this crash. That could show whether some unknown damage or manufacturer’s defect affected the fallen rider’s ability to control the motorcycle. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the expertise for this kind of inspection, so an independent expert likely will be needed to figure out if a vehicle issue contributed to this crash.
