Arnaldo Villarreal Killed in Pedestrian Accident in El Paso, TX

Investigators said that 65-year-old Arnaldo Villarreal was a pedestrian who reportedly attempted to walk westbound across lanes of Lee Trevino. While on northbound lanes, it appears a Lexus SUV did not avoid Villarreal in time, hitting him in the roadway. Due to the collision, Villarreal sustained apparently serious injuries. No further information can be confirmed.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One thing authorities mentioned which concerns me is they apparently have no independent witnesses to the collision. Any crash where one party is seriously hurt raises the concern that the injured person won’t be able to tell their side of the story unless authorities make sure to follow up with them later on. That only becomes a more serious issue when authorities have no independent witnesses, since they often rely heavily on that source of information.

Sometimes investigators take the time to ensure the evidence fills in those gaps, but if authorities feel there are higher priorities on their plate, they might just move on without ever giving the victim their say. Hopefully investigators here have been more thorough than these initial statements suggest.
