Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Nissan made a lane change at an unsafe time, striking the Ford as a result. This caused the Ford to lose control and collide with the motorcycle. The Nissan allegedly fled the scene after the accident, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victims. However, reports state that the person who had been occupying the hit-and-run vehicle was later located.

Oliver, who had been occupying the motorcycle at the time of the wreck, suffered suspected severe injuries as a result. The 70-year-old man who had been in the overturned Ford sustained moderate injuries, as well. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
