How Did This Accident Occur?
This crash proves that bad things can happen when two vehicles try to occupy the same space at the same time, but it up to investigators to figure out why this accident happened.
Was one of these drivers fatigued or distracted? Did another vehicle prevent one of these drivers from avoiding the crash? Did one of these vehicles have a mechanical issue that affected its brakes or steering mechanism? The best way to answer these questions is to wait until the investigation into the crash is complete.
Authorities likely will gather physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage as they work to reconstruct this crash. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.
If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, an independent expert likely will be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the vehicles. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such exams.
A thorough investigation should provide answers to any lingering questions the motorcyclist’s family may have about this accident.
