Accident Report

August 7, 2026, Angelica Bernal and Elizabeth Benavides were injured following a car accident at around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 44.

Preliminary statements on the crash said that it happened along Highway 44 in the area of Sunset Drive. It appears that 48-year-old Angelica Bernal and a child were in a Hyundai Palisade going westbound. 56-year-old Elizabeth Benavides, a 37-year-old woman, and a teenager were in a Nissan Sentra going southwest. The vehicles reportedly crossed paths and collided.

Due to the accident, both Angelica Bernal and Elizabeth Benavides reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were confirmed. Currently, additional details about the crash are also unconfirmed.

How Did This Accident Occur?

With any car crash, there will be common concerns like distracted driving, failure to yield, speeding, etc. What’s important is making sure investigations are thorough enough to cover both common possible factors and uncommon ones.

For instance, I rarely see authorities look into things like potential vehicle defects. These day, modern vehicles have all kinds of systems, parts, and features that can have unknown flaws. And with so many manufacturers adding automatic driving, crash avoidance, and lane assistance features, there may be unproven systems that have yet to reveal their issues. So, making sure they’re analyzed after a crash can at the least rule out potential defects and at best bring to light serious issues which may have otherwise been overlooked.
