How Did This Accident Occur?

In hit-and-run accidents like this, authorities likely are focused on finding the unidentified vehicle involved in the crash, but they still need to figure out why it happened too.

Was the unknown driver reckless or impaired, or did the vehicle have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? Investigators should be able to sort out these questions once police track down the vehicle and its engine control module, which will have data about its speed, braking and throttle use before the crash. An independent expert may be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to the crash, since in my experience most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or expertise for forensic examinations of vehicles involved in an accident.

A thorough probe should answer any lingering questions that the injured driver and her family may have about this crash.
