How Did This Accident Occur?
The most common reasons behind crashes like this are distracted or inattentive driving. It would not surprise me if evidence showed that happened here. However, it’s always important that investigators look into even uncommon possible factors. For example, are there any issues with the road design in this area? Are there obstructed sight lines? Is there missing signage? Are lines worn and faded? Is the speed limit unsafe for the grade or curve of the road? I rarely ever see authorities ask these questions, yet they can be crucial for reconstructing serious accidents. If authorities don’t look into these things, it might be a sign they’re overlooking other important questions, as well. So while I can’t say one way or another what caused this crash, my experience makes me wonder if it’s being taken seriously enough to get the full story.
If anyone is familiar with this stretch of highway, what are your thoughts? Is it a safe stretch of road? Does it need improvements? Let me know in the comments.
