Rollover accidents can present unique challenges given the amount of damage a car can sustain. A key factor in accident reconstruction that often goes overlooked is inspecting the vehicle to see if there were any sort of defects that contributing to the crash or the victim’s injuries. If authorities don’t take the time to carefully consider these possibilities, important details can easily slip through the cracks.
For example, we had a case not long ago where authorities claimed a driver hadn’t been wearing their seatbelt. The family knew the victim would never forget something like that, so they wanted a second opinion. With a more details inspection of the vehicle by specialists, it turned out the seatbelt was defective. The pretensioner failed, causing the victim to be far more seriously injured than they otherwise would have been with a properly working seatbelt.
I’m not suggesting something like that happened here, but these are the kinds of things that at least need to be ruled out after a serious crash. If authorities overlook these possible factors, it only raises questions about what else they may have overlooked.
