Accident Report

Amarillo, TX — August 31, 2026, Alma Rivas and a child were killed and two other people were injured in a rollover accident at about 6 p.m. on Interstate 27.

Authorities said a Ford pickup and a GMC SUV collided while changing lanes as they were heading north toward Georgia Street. The SUV crashed into the median, while the pickup rolled into the grassy median.

A woman in the pickup, 41-year-old Alma Yazmin Peregrino Rivas, died at the scene of the crash, while an 8-year-old child died after being transported to a local hospital, according to authorities. A 34-year-old man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The SUV driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Randall County crash at this time.
