Generally speaking, it wouldn’t be surprising if the runaway driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Alcohol is a common factor that leads drivers to flee an accident scene. This can make things rather complex, as simply holding that person accountable for leaving the scene may not tell the whole story. There may still be other evidence to show where they were drinking, whether or not they were intoxicated when the accident happened, and whether or not they were unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider prior to the accident. That way, those affected by the accident can rest assured there’s going to be full accountability.
